From banking to staying in touch, our devices play a big role in everyday life. But the more connected we are, the more important it is to protect our personal information. A few smart digital habits can make a big difference.
System Updates: One of the easiest ways to stay secure is keeping your devices up to date. System and app updates help protect against new threats, while older devices that no longer receive updates may be more at risk.
Passwords: Strong passwords add another layer of protection. Use unique passwords that are hard to guess and avoid saving sensitive login information on your devices. Lock your phone when it’s not in use, especially if you access financial apps or messages.
Calls and Messages: It’s also important to stay alert with emails, texts, and phone calls. Even messages that look legitimate can be scams. Never click unexpected links, open unknown attachments, or share personal or financial information. Financial institutions will not ask for account numbers, PINs, or security codes.
Public Wi-Fi: Public Wi-Fi is another common risk. Even familiar networks can be spoofed, so it’s best to avoid accessing sensitive accounts while connected to public hotspots.
Digital security doesn’t have to be complicated. Staying aware, keeping devices updated, and protecting your information can go a long way.
